Fortified Island Oasis Newsletters

Tuan the Sea Eagle

Tuan the Sea Eagle by kind permission of Jim Fitzpatrick

Twenty years ago today, Fortified Island Oasis OTO in Ireland launched their first newsletter. Times have changed since then, and our publications have become somewhat more professional, but for those interested in the history of our Order in Ireland these are important source materials. So it is with great pleasure that we present the original newsletters here on this most auspicious anniversary.

Lon Milo Duquette: Enochian Magick – Experiental Adventures in Angelic Evocation on June 2nd

Lon Milo DuQuetteA rare chance to participate in a workshop given by the longest-serving member of OTO worldwide, Brother Lon Milo DuQuette, on his first ever visit to Ireland!

Enochian Magick is the perhaps the most powerful and elegant system of western magick. It is also one of the most misunderstood. Developed in the late 1500s by Elizabethan Magus John Dee, this system of communicating with angels in their own language has survived the centuries to become a powerful tool of self-discovery to the 21st century seeker. Join author and magician, Lon Milo DuQuette, for a day of real magical practice as he shows you how easy it is to journey in vision to the Elemental Worlds and Aethyric Heavens. Come prepared to participate.

Born 1948 in Long Beach California, and raised in Columbus Nebraska — 1960s radical Peace activist and Epic Records song-writer and recording artist turned author, Holy-Man, Humorist Wizard.

Author of 16 critically acclaimed books (translated in 12 languages) on Magick and the Occult, Lon Milo DuQuette is one of the most respected and entertaining writers and lecturers in the field of the Western Mystery Traditions.

Since 1975 he as been a national and international governing officer of Ordo Templi Orientis, one of the most influential magical societies of the 20th Century. He is an internationally recognized authority on tarot and western ceremonial magick. Although he takes these subjects very seriously, he tries not to take himself too seriously. This rare combination of scholarship and humor has earned him in the last 20 years a unique and respected position in American spiritual and esoteric literature.

He is a prolific writer and his published works have been hailed by experts and novices alike for bringing and clarity to these often misunderstood subjects. One of his most popular works is the story of his own life as a practicing ceremonial magician, My Life with the Spirits. Futurist and best-selling author Robert Anton Wilson calls it “the best all-around introduction to Western Occultism — sane, sensible, down-to-earth and wonderfully witty.”

Besides his own books his articles and essays appear in numerous magazines, journals and anthologies including “Rebels and Devils” alongside the works of William S. Burroughs, Robert Anton Wilson, Timothy Leary and Israel Regardie.

Reviewers have compared DuQuette’s wit and quirky writing style to that of Mark Twain and Robert Benchley. Audiences at his workshops and seminars describe the experience as a cascade of mesmerizing information, laughter and terror.

He is a faculty member of the Omega Institute in Reinbeck New York, and Robert Anton Wilson’s Maybe Logic Academy.

He lives in Costa Mesa, California with his wife of 44 years, Constance.

This workshop will be held at The Lantern Centre, Dublin. Tickets are 44 Euro in advance, available from http://www.nimbitmusic.com/otoireland

Lon Milo DuQuette – The Key to Solomon’s Key lecture on June 3rd

Lon Milo DuQuetteThe popularity of Dan Brown’s Da Vinci Code and a string of popular films has ignited an explosion of public interest in Freemasonry and the role this fraternity has played in the untold history of western civilization. What (if any) is Masonry’s connection to the intrigues of the Knights Templar – the crusading order of military monks condemned for heresy and sorcery in the 14th century? Did the Templars, as so many modern commentators are suggesting, really possess a secret so astonishing that it threatened the very existence of the Church of Rome and the monarchies of Europe whose power rested upon the “Divine Right of Kings?”

According to Lon Milo DuQuette, best-selling author and Freemason, the secret of the Templars has, for the last three hundred years, been quietly revealed to those who have eyes to see in the story of King Solomon and the symbols and ceremonies of Freemasonry

Is Solomon’s story true? Or do myth and tradition hold the key that unlocks mysteries of human consciousness infinitely more astounding than history? DuQuette certainly thinks so:

“The purpose of Masonry’s veneration of Solomon is not to advance an alternate view of history, but to present, however subtly, the archetype of the future human being – men and women who truly possess Solomon’s Key – the power to master our own demons and redirect their destructive energy to build the Temple of our own evolving soul.”

DuQuette has written several successful books on Western mystical traditions including: Freemasonry, Tarot, Qabalah, ceremonial magic, the Enochian magic of Dr. John Dee, and spirit evocation, Goetia. He is perhaps best known as “an author who injects humor into the serious subjects of magick and the occult.”

DuQuette is on the faculty of the Omega Institute for Holistic Studies in Rhinebeck, New York where he teaches The Western Magical Tradition. His autobiography, My Life with the Spirits, is currently a required text for two classes at DePaul University, Chicago. He occasionally appears on radio and television as a guest expert on subjects involving the occult.

Since 1975 DuQuette has been a National and International governing officer of Ordo Templi Orientis, a religious and fraternal organization founded in the early part of the 20th century. Since 1996 he has been O.T.O.’s United States Deputy Grand Master. He is also an Archbishop of Ecclesia Gnostica Catholica, the ecclesiastical arm of O.T.O.

This lecture will be held at Dublin Freemasons Hall. Tickets are 15 Euro in advance from http://www.nimbitmusic.com/otoireland
